Heat causes roads to buckle in Eastern Washington
ROSALIA, Wash. — The Washington State Department of Transportation responded to an incident of road-buckling in Whitman County this week. It happened about 21 miles north of Colfax, along U.S. 195 next to the Horn School Rest Area. WASHDOT crews posted a picture of it to their social media account yesterday, telling the public that they would have it under control shortly.
Heat Causes 3 Buckles In US195 Near Rosalia
Hot temperatures caused three buckles on U.S. Highway 195 near Rosalia on Tuesday. All the ruptures occurred near the rest stop in North Whitman County. Washington State Department of Transportation crews completely repaired two of the buckles on Tuesday. Work to fully repair the worst buckle will wrap up when the weather cools down. There are currently no traffic delays on the highway. A WSDOT employee will drive that section of highway hourly during the day to monitor for more buckling during this heatwave. This is one of the oldest and thinnest sections of poured concrete on US195.
Road Project Will Lead to Detours
Phase 1 |July 16-22 This phase requires closing all southbound and northbound lanes of SR 904 at the railroad crossing directly south of Betz Road. A detour for travelers who use southbound SR 904 will be setup via Betz Road to 6th Street/Murphy Road to Simpson Parkway. Travelers on northbound SR 904 can detour via Simpson Parkway to 6th Street/Murphy Road to Betz Road.
'Excessive heat warning' not likely to harm Northwest wheat crop
Ben Barstow started farming a little earlier the last few days. "Especially with long days, you've got from 5 a.m. until 9 a.m., practically, before it gets too hot," said Barstow, chairman of the Washington Grain Commission, a farmer in Palouse, Wash. ROSALIA, Wash.-How hot has it been the past week? Hot enough to buckle some stretches of road in Washington, according to the Department of Transportation. A stretch of US 195 just south of Rosalia at the Horn School Rest Area buckled due to the extreme heat this week and maintenance crews are working to repair it before the heat causes more damage.
