Juan Trejo Perez sentenced to a year in prison for third-degree child molestation
COLFAX — Juan Trejo Perez was sentenced to serve a year in prison for third-degree child molestation Friday morning at Whitman County Superior Court in Colfax. Whitman County Judge Gary Libey handed down the maximum sentence permissible by the state of Washington. The 34-year-old man was also ordered to a year in community custody and must register as a sex offender for the next 10 years. Libey approved a victim no contact order of five years.

Typically, the skies are clear and sunny, providing some bright light and great low-angle light before sunset. Colfax fireworks stand open for business
COLFAX - The Colfax Rotary Club and the Colfax High School baseball team have banned together again this year to sell fireworks for the Fourth of July. The stand opened on Friday, June 28, and will continue operation until July 4. The stand will be open from noon to 8 p.m. June 28 through July 3, and on July 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Rosauers parking lot.

MALDEN - A local veteran was recognized for assisting a veteran's widow in Okanogan County by Congress members during Malden's Town Council on Tuesday, June 11. Veterans aid for Rep. Dan Newhouse Hank Cramer and Veteran's Aide for Rep. Rhoderick McIntosh
Rhoderick D. “Rhod” McIntosh, 83, of Colfax, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Whitman Hospital in Colfax from complications of Parkinson’s. Rhod was born July 30, 1940 in Tammany, Idaho, to Donald and Nicatie (Baugh) McIntosh. The family moved to Pullman where he spent his elementary years, later moving to Kamiak Butte to farm with his grandfather and father. After graduating from Colfax High School in 1958, he attended Wenatchee Junior College where he played football and received his associates degree. He then played football for a short time at Washington State University until he suffered a career-ending concussion. While at WSU he met his future bride on a blind date, Barbara J. Hesse, and married her in Pullman on Dec. 16, 1961, in the middle of a snowstorm. Together they raised their family on the farm he later took over from his father.
