First ever Summer Street Fest draws hundreds to enjoy shopping, cars, activities, more
Gladwin welcomed hundreds of visitors and vendors to its first ever Summer Street Festival on Saturday, which lined the main street with arts, crafts, games and more. EPA Announces Revisions to the Velsicol Chemical Superfund Site Cleanup Plan
CHICAGO (July 12, 2024) – On Monday, July 15, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will begin a 30-day public comment period on proposed revisions to the Velsicol Chemical Superfund site cleanup plan. Loons suffer first no-hitter loss since May 2013 against TinCaps
MIDLAND, Mich. (WNEM) - It’s Pontooners Weekend for the Great Lakes Loons but against the TinCaps, it was a sinking feeling at the Dow Diamond. Fort Wayne started out up 1-0 to start the 1st inning but fans came alive as the Loons ended the top of the 2nd with a double play.
Alma still gathering feedback on proposed ‘social district’
Alma city officials are continuing to gather feedback on a proposed downtown ‘social district.’. City commissioners held a public hearing during their most recent meeting seeking comments on the idea, which would allow visitors to carry and consume alcoholic beverages on sidewalks and “common areas” in the central business district from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.

The Red Door Art Gallery held an artist reception this last Thursday for world renowned muralist and street painter, Wahpeton native, Shawn McCann. McCann, a 1998 Graduate of Wahpeton High School, is known for many things across the Twin Towns. His artwork is a permanent part of the Wahpeton, Breckenridge and North Dakota State College of Science landscape in the more than half dozen murals he has painted. And with one more on the docket, we could be seeing more of his vibrant work brightening up our streets again soon.
Northern Driveline opens with win over Coldwell Banker
STANTON – The 2024 Leo Durocher Tournament got under way on Thursday with Northern Driveline earning a 4-1 win over Coldwell Banker -Craig Heinonen in the opener. Ross Kinnunen gave credit to Northern’s winning pitcher Brent Loukus. He went the distance for the win striking out five along the way.
Midland Area Community Foundation names new trustees, officers
The Midland Area Community Foundation recently welcomed Ali Huntoon, Kristin Stehouwer, and Noah Kent to its Board of Trustees. Alongside this trio of appointments, the foundation elected a new slate of officers at its annual meeting. Huntoon is the co-founder and Director of HR and Talent Acquisition at Allied HR Solutions, a consulting firm assisting small and growing businesses with their human resources needs. With over a decade of human resources industry experience, she has expertise in benefits administration, compensation management, talent acquisition, and human resources management, having worked with large corporations like Dow and Chemical Bank, nonprofits like Alma College, and various small businesses and startups. Additionally, Huntoon is a certified fitness instructor and yoga teacher, having co-founded Allied Group Fitness, a studio offering classes for all fitness levels. She is an active volunteer, serving as an ambassador and board member for the Midland Business Alliance and as a member of the Midland Noon Exchange Club. Huntoon lives in Midland with her husband, Scott, and their dog, Baxter.
