Six Flags, Cedar Fair complete merger for amusement park powerhouse

ST. LOUIS – Amusement park brands Six Flags and Cedar Fair have merged to operate dozens of parks under the Six Flags name, including Six Flags St. Louis.

The merged company will oversee 42 parks across the United States, Mexico and Canada, operating under the name of “Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.”

According to a news release Monday , all theme parks involved in the merger “will retain their legacy branding with no changes to park names currently being planned or contemplated.”

In Missouri, the Six Flags corporation will now oversee Six Flags St. Louis and Kansas City-based amusement park Worlds of Fun.

“We believe that by combining the best ideas and most successful entertainment practices of both Six Flags and Cedar Fair, the new Six Flags can deliver a superior level of joy and excitement that has yet to be experienced by regional park guests,” said Selim Bassoul, executive chairman of the board of directors of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, via a news release.

“Our merger establishes a new Six Flags Entertainment Corporation with a highly diversified footprint and robust operating model, enhancing park offerings and performance though the complementary portfolio of attractive assets and intellectual property from each of Cedar Fair and the former Six Flags,” said Richard Zimmerman, president and chief executive officer of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, via the release.

Officials say the merger will enhance the financial profile of the corporation and could help accelerate investments in the parks.

Six Flags shared a map Monday of all parks involved in the merger.
