ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A local celebrity is headlining this year's Fourth of July Celebration in St. Louis.

The Urge and lead singer Steve Ewing will perform under the Arch Thursday night as part of the city's Independence Day festivities.

"This one's huge because this is the show that so many major artists have done here in St. Louis," Ewing said on Total Information A.M. Wednesday. "James Brown has played it and James Taylor, all these big artists have played it. So it's just kind of like for us, 'ok, we've elevated ourselves to that level now.' So it just feels really great."

Weather could dampen the festivities, with rain expected to be in the St. Louis-area Thursday for 4th of July, but Ewing told KMOX's Megan Lynch they will perform rain or shine.

"If it's raining, we're just play," said Ewing. "And what we found, because we've done Pointfest and some other festivals in the rain, people just stay. People just like 'we're gonna be wet, we're gonna be muddy' so it's fun to watch that happen. Of course, they'll just call the show if they see lightning. So I'm hoping tomorrow if it does rain it just rains a little bit because I think people are just going to be out and ready to kick it."

While getting ready for his performance as part of Celebrate St. Louis, Ewing was also loading trucks so his restaurant Steve's Hot Dogs could set up on the Arch grounds as a vendor.

The performance by Ewing is among the many events that will happen as part of Celebrate St. Louis festivities. Right before the performance at 8 pm, an air show will take place at 2 pm, weather permitting. Among the pilots include one who helped train the actors in "Top Gun: Maverick" .
