Former Secret Service agent reacts to Trump assassination attempt

ST. LOUIS – Brian Gant was a secret service agent for about seven years during the Barack Obama administration. Gant, who lives in St. Louis, spoke to us via zoom from a conference he’s attending in Chicago.

“As soon as you heard the shots, agents immediately rushed the stage, immediately shielded the president in a crouched fashion. Go to the problem is what we were taught – or remove the protectee from the problem.”

Gant says there will now be monitoring of other potential political violence.

He told us, “Chris, you always worry about copycat artists in these types of situations, but I just have a lot of faith in preparation that’s done in these types of situations prior and even more so after. It’s very unfortunate, but it will be very interesting to see what the investigation yields.”
