ST. LOUIS – Authorities arrested multiple carjacking suspects after a pursuit Thursday morning on Interstate 70 in St. Louis.

The pursuit ended in the westbound lanes of I-70 near the Adelaide Avenue exit. Investigators tell FOX 2 that at least four suspects were arrested.

“District 4 officers were at 25th and Palm and they spotted that vehicle that had just been broadcast across the entire city to our officer,” says Mitch McCoy, St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Communications Officer.  “Officers turned on their lights and sirens.  That vehicle didn’t stop and given the information we had that there was a carjacking and that the suspects were armed, officers gave pursuit.”

Several officers with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene. The police deparment said it was good radio work and standard police tactics that led officers to pick up on the stolen vehicle.

Bommarito Automotive Group Skyfox was over Highway 70 and Adelaide, where a car, after hitting numerous curbs, blew out its tires and came to a stop. Authorities then pursued the suspects on foot after they abandoned the vehicle, leading to the capture and arrest of two individuals.

“The driver was 18 years-old and he was taken into custody. There was a 16-year-old passenger,” says McCoy.  “He was taken into custody as well.  Officers seeking charges on robbery first degree, resisting arrest, and tampering with a motor vehicle.  And of course, those charges will be taken to the circuit attorney’s office and the juvenile court.”

Police say the driver of the carjacking was not injured. There were some significant traffic backups on I-70 earlier in the morning.
