ST. LOUIS – A software bug created massive flight delays Friday for some passengers. CrowdStrike said they are working to restore services after a global outage impacted flights, hospitals, and banks.

Delays piled up by the hour for some airlines at St. Louis Lambert International Airport. “We’re a couple of hours delayed and we’re now seeing that it is not on the board. But on the app it looks like it is going to be boarding in about half an hour. So we’re optimistic,” said Tom Hoepf.

FlightAware showed more than 120 flights were delayed out of Lambert Airport on Friday. “We probably saw it at about seven this morning. The first one and our flight was supposed to be a little after 10 this morning. So it gave us plenty of warning but we never know if those delay notices are going to stick,” said Jef Jakalski.

“I don’t know if I’ve given myself enough time even to speak with an agent before my flight is actually supposed to take off,” said Andrew Crider. He said the wait time to talk to an airline representative was 10.5 hours, so he went in person to hopefully get answers.

“Got a lot of conflicting information about my flight time whether it is on time. Some of my apps say that it is on time others say that it is delayed. The board here says it is on time but just received a text message saying it’ll be seven hours delayed,” said Crider.

Passengers hope the airlines can catch up but they were nervous about arriving in their next destination. “We don’t want to look right now. We’re hoping there is an open gate once we land. That is the biggest fear, we’ll get out of here and then we’ll sit on the tarmac out there,” said Jakalski.
