ST. LOUIS – The Urban League of Metropolitan St Louis is expecting a large turnout for its “Back to School Expo” this weekend.

The expo runs through Saturday at America’s Center. It’s a family fun celebration that also gives residents the opportunity to tap into back-to-school resources and bring the community together. The expo comes through Urban League’s partnership with St. Louis Public Schools.

On Friday, in advance of the expo, hundreds attended a job and career fair at America’s Center. More than 70 employers participated.

Twana Brown with the U.S. Department of Treasury says the organization saw more than 100 applicants on Friday.

“We talked with them about positions with the department, interviewed on the spot, making selections where they can hire and work within 40 to 65 days. We saw a qualified and diverse group of people that can join our agency.”

Press McDowell with Steak N’ Shake says it was a tremendous opportunity. “It gives us a chance to touch the community, to let the community know what we represent. We find some very good individuals to fill positions, looking for transition jobs or first jobs.”

There was also an opportunity for job seekers to dress for success.
