Parkway School District begins final high school security upgrade

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – The Parkway School District has been working over the past few years to provide more secure entrances at schools. Officials held a groundbreaking at Parkway North High School Monday morning, the last high school in the district to receive the upgrades.

“I think it’s very important to add these measures because it’ll make our school community safer,” Annalyn Hudson, incoming sophomore, said. “It’ll help the people and the students going to the school know that they’re protected.”

The two-year, $28 million project is part of Proposition S, which passed in Nov. 2022 with over 76% community approval.

“I’m most excited about everything,” Sherlyn Torres, incoming senior, said. “You can just walk around the school, and you feel safe no matter what.”

The school district holds a promise to make significant differences regarding school’s security and accessibility.

“Meeting with the construction people, they would ask different things and I was always, ‘Let’s go,’” Principal David Jones said. “But we’ll handle any of the inconveniences…we’re just ready to get the process moving.”

The new school year begins four weeks from Monday.
