ST. LOUIS – Four officers were taken to the hospital after being exposed to a suspected narcotic found on a suspect.

The officers with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department were attempting a traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon in the city’s Walnut Park West neighborhood when the exposure occurred.

SLMPD say they were in pursuit of a BMW with an illegally tinted front windshield, no front vehicle license plate and driving at a high rate of speed.

When the police attempted to stop the BMW, the three suspects got out of the vehicle and ran from the police. After following them on foot, the police officers took all three suspects into custody. SLMPD says they were already convicted felons at the time of arrest.

While searching the suspects, officers recovered four firearms from inside the BMW and found suspected fentanyl on one of the suspects. While retrieving the bag of fentanyl from the suspect, the bag ripped and exposed four officers at the scene.

One of the officers lost consciousness and was administered Narcan. The four officers were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay.

According to SLMPD, the three suspects are facing multiple charges, including resisting arrest, unlawful possession of a firearm, stealing a firearm, unlawful use of an illegal weapon, first-degree assault on law enforcement, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of controlled substance.

stop running irresponsible stories like this. it is impossible to overdose on fentanyl through casual skin contact. every case of this ends up being a panic or anxiety attack, the person using drugs illegally, or attention seeking.
