Cardinals reunite with former outfielder in trade for White Sox veteran starter

In the trade that got them Erick Fedde from the Chicago White Sox and sent utility man Tommy Edman to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the St. Louis Cardinals are also reuniting with a familiar face. Outfielder Tommy Pham is headed to St. Louis as part of the deal.

St. Louis was in desperate need of a right-handed power bat to balance out the number of left-handed hitters they had in their order. They also have not performed well against left-handed pitchers.

Pham has a .848 OPS against lefties this year and a .834 mark for his career , so this should help the Cardinals fare better against such pitchers.

St. Louis owns a record of 54-51 on the season and they currently sit one game back of the third and final Wild Card spot in the National League. While Fedde joining the team gives them the starter they need, Pham gives them a little extra power from the right side and yet another veteran presence in the clubhouse.

In addition to his strong OPS numbers against left-handed pitchers, Pham is hitting .266 with five home runs, and 19 RBI. He is also reaching base at a .330 clip.

Pham made his debut with the Cardinals back in 2014 and became a starter in the outfield by 2017. He was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays the following year and has bounced around between the San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Arizona Diamondbacks, and White Sox since then.
