MLB fans were stunned to watch ESPN star Joe Buck make a broadcast cameo during an MLB broadcast.

The 55-year-old joined the St. Louis Cardinals broadcast booth at Busch Stadium on Monday – an MLB venue he’s well familiar with.

Buck and longtime broadcaster Chip Caray teamed up to call the Cardinals’ opening series matchup against the World Series-defending Texas Rangers .

It was the first baseball game Buck had called since the 2021 season.

The duo of Buck-Caray was a throwback to the 1950s and 60s, when Joe’s father, Jack, and Chip’s grandfather, Harry, called games for the Cardinals Radio Network.

Joe got his start broadcasting Cardinals games on TV and Cardinals Radio Network from 1991 to 2007.

“It’s good to sit here with you,” Buck said to Caray during the pregame broadcast of Monday’s Cardinals game on Bally Sports Midwest.

MLB fans were blown away by Buck’s appearance on the telecast.

“Feels surreal to have him back on an MLB broadcast,” one commented.

“Need him back on the World Series,” another wrote.

    “Welcome back,” a third added.

Buck entered Monday’s assignment with a history of calling Rangers-Cardinals games.

He commentated the 2011 World Series when the Cardinals won in seven games over the Rangers.

Buck got to call one of the most iconic moments in MLB history when Cardinals’ David Freese hit a walk-off home run in the 11th inning against Texas, forcing a Game 7.

The Cardinals had planned for Buck and Caray to commentate the game in late May, but it got rained out which set up Monday’s task.

In 2022, he left Fox Sports to sign with ESPN and call Monday Night Football games alongside his longtime partner Troy Aikman.

Buck had served as a television play-by-play announcer for the World Series for 25 years.

He worked alongside his iconic father Jack while calling Cardinals games during his early days of broadcasting.

Joe was grateful that Caray agreed to do the broadcast with him.

“Broadcasters get real territorial and Chip was the opposite of that,” Buck told Total Information A.M on Monday.

    “He flung the doors open.

“My wife, my little boys, everybody was welcomed and he does not need to be that way.”

Caray joined the Cardinals broadcast team in 2023 after previously being the Atlanta Braves play-by-play voice for 18 years.
