'A little bit of failure can help': Cardinals prospect set to contribute after callup

Prior to their 6-2 loss on Sunday to the Chicago Cubs, the St. Louis Cardinals placed rookie outfielder Michael Siani on the 10-Day Injured List with an oblique strain.

Siani may be out for quite some time, as oblique injuries can take a while. In a corresponding move, St. Louis recalled top prospect Victor Scott II from Triple-A Memphis.

Scott struggled at the plate in his first stint with the club, but has made some changes in recent weeks, according to Katie Woo of The Athletic.

"A little bit of failure can help," Scott said. "I failed a lot to start. I failed when I got to Triple-A, so it's been pretty cool to be able to regain a different mindset and attack in a different way."

Woo notes that several weeks ago, Scott added a leg kick to his swing and has since taken off. He is 11-for-36 with three home runs dating back to July 23.

The Cardinals are going to need Scott to continue his recent surge. The bats went quiet on Sunday in Chicago, and while Siani hasn't exactly been a force, he at least has been productive.

Scott had been thrust into the starting center field role out of spring training after injuries to Tommy Edman and Dylan Carlson. He'll likely get the chance to start more in center field.

The Cardinals have lost six of their last 10 games and have fallen to three games out in the National League Wild Card race. They're also 5 1/2 games back of the first-place Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central.
