Jennings' gem leads Post 254 to easy victory
PRINCETON — Rockport Post 254 closed a weekend slate in Princeton by shutting out Post 25 7-0 in American Legion baseball played July 6. In the first inning, Evan McClain reached on a single and he scored on Hudson Allen’s RBI triple. Allen would score on a ground ball off the bat of Blake Taylor, giving Post 254 a 2-0 lead.
Legion regional to be played in Rockport
ROCKPORT — Rockport Post 254 has hit the homestretch of its regular season schedule and several changes were made in the lead-up to the regional. Due to a lack of available teams, the scheduled Pastime tournament in Evansville was canceled and as a result, Post 254 added home games against Pate and Lyon County (Ky.) over the weekend.
Rockport holds on for 7-6 win over Jasper
JASPER — Rockport Post 254 had to withstand a late seventh inning rally from Jasper Post 254 to win 7-6 in American Legion baseball on July 8. Leading by four runs, Colten Hopf began the inning on the mound and he hit A.J. Huelsman with a pitch before a Kody Morton single put runners at the corners with nobody out.

Phyllis Jean (Tormohlen) Luker, 84, peacefully passed away at 11:35 PM EST on July 10, 2024 at Willowdale Nursing Home in Dale, Indiana. Her loving daughter was by her side. Known as “Duffy” to many, Phyllis was born on November 30, 1939 to Albert and Louise (Weitkamp) Tormohlen. She married Paul D. Luker September 12, 1958. They had two children, Scott and Suzanne. Phyllis was an adored grandmother to seven and great-grandmother to sixteen. She loved her family with her whole heart and enjoyed the days when she could frequently attend her grandchildren’s sporting events. To them, she was “Grandma Duffy,” which she proudly would agree was her favorite name.

Jasper Athletics releases Fall Hall of Fame Banquet Information
Jasper - Jasper Athletics has announced ticketing information for this fall's Hall of Fame Banquet. Jasper High School sent out the following press release. Tickets are being sold for the third annual induction banquet of the Jasper High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The banquet will be held Saturday, September 21, at the Calumet Lake Event Plaza. Doors will open at 5 p.m. for a reception/cocktail hour, dinner at 6:30 p.m., and the ceremony at 7:30 p.m. The meal will be catered by chef Tim Flick and his Carodella’s Custom Catering business. Cost is $25 per person.

LEOPOLD — Perry Central softball for the 2023-2024 season finished with a record of 14-10 overall with a sectional win. The Commodores started the season by going 2-2 in their first four games. They beat Owensboro Home School and North Harrison before losing to Mount Vernon and Tell City. Perry Central against Owensboro finished with eight runs and MaKenna Labhart had four of the eight RBI.
