Barbara Hagman
Barbara Frey Hagman, 89, of Hawesville passed on to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday July 9, 2024 under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Barbara was born in Owensboro, KY on June 26, 1935 to the late William Charles and Mary Agnes Bryan Frey. Barbara was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, which she loved, she loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Vic Hagman and her daughter Mary Rose Hagman.

Huntingburg Makes Plans to Enhance Public Safety
Early on Thursday morning, the Huntingburg Board of Public Works and Safety assembled with an agenda heavily focused on public safety. The meeting opened with updates from the police department, as the board heard that the K9 vehicle is completely outfitted and back out on the road. In addition, the new vehicle is being outfitted and they hope to have that one ready in the next couple of weeks. Regarding staffing, Chief Kramer said that the department currently has 6 reserve officers with the capacity for 15, so they are still looking for more reserves to be able to help with events and traffic control. There are a couple of applications in for full time positions as well. Coffee with a Cop will be held at The Huntingburg Grind Coffee and Tea Company on the morning of July 26 th from 8 to 10. Everyone is welcome to come by for coffee and conversation, and there will be Spanish translation available. The board commended the department for their efforts to interact with the public and get to know the community that they serve, and to allow residents the opportunity to get to know them and ask any questions that they might have.

Tell City fireworks almost didn't happen
TELL CITY — The Tell City firework show almost didn’t get to happen this year due to unforeseen insurance complications. Luckily the City of Tell City was able to pull it off in record time and had their firework display on Friday, July 5. Behind the floodwall was filled with community members enjoying each other’s company and children playing on the play equipment for the first hour while everyone waited for the show.

JASPER — Dorothy E. Eichmiller, 96, of Jasper, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away July 9, 2024. She was born in Dubois County on September 11, 1927 to Edward G. and Hilda D. (Krodel) Eichmiller. At the age of 9, she and family moved to Indianapolis where she lived until 2020 when she returned to Jasper to reside in Good Samaritan Assisted Living.

MADISONVILLE, Ky. — A fast start allowed Rockport Post 254 to dominate Madisonville Post 6 in an 11-1 victory in American Legion baseball played July 2. Post 254 capitalized on walks in the first inning and loaded the bases on free passes to Ty Brown, Evan McClain and Seth Deom. Season in review: Perry Central baseball
LEOPOLD — Perry Central baseball this season finished the year with a record of 9-13 after winning the sectional championship in 2023. The Commodores first two games of the regular season started with losses to South Central and South Spencer before they won their first game of the year against Corydon Central (11-7). Five players for Perry Central finished with multiple hits including Travis Kellems, Corbin Haughee, Aiden Labhart, Cohen Edwards and Luke Zellers. Kellems and Ethan Ball pitched for Perry Central.
Patriots' Sisley leaving for Montverde Academy
LINCOLN CITY — Heritage Hills’ Trent Sisley is forgoing his final year playing for the Patriots and will instead finish his prep career at Montverde Academy in Florida. “I think it’s a great opportunity for me to obviously go better myself and better my game,” Sisley told the Journal-Democrat. “I think that was the main decision and one of the big factors that went into it.”
Dorothy Strobel
DALE — Dorothy A. Strobel, age 85, of Dale, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024, in Dale, Indiana. She was born January 21, 1939, in New Boston to Hubert and Elsie (Friedel) Brinksneader; and married James A Strobel on June 24, 1961 at St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in New Boston. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi/St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dale. Together, Dorothy and James traveled to 48 different states. She enjoyed bird watching, especially cardinals, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James A Strobel, who passed away on May 24, 2014; and brother, Ronald Brinksneader.
