Dorothy Strobel
DALE — Dorothy A. Strobel, age 85, of Dale, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024, in Dale, Indiana. She was born January 21, 1939, in New Boston to Hubert and Elsie (Friedel) Brinksneader; and married James A Strobel on June 24, 1961 at St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in New Boston. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi/St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dale. Together, Dorothy and James traveled to 48 different states. She enjoyed bird watching, especially cardinals, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James A Strobel, who passed away on May 24, 2014; and brother, Ronald Brinksneader.
Tell City fireworks almost didn't happen
TELL CITY — The Tell City firework show almost didn’t get to happen this year due to unforeseen insurance complications. Luckily the City of Tell City was able to pull it off in record time and had their firework display on Friday, July 5. Behind the floodwall was filled with community members enjoying each other’s company and children playing on the play equipment for the first hour while everyone waited for the show.
Tell City Fire Department new promotions
On July 1st three members were promoted to the ranks of Assistant Chief and Division Chief. Assistant Chief John Kleeman is a 12 year veteran of the department and a 30+ year Paramedic. He will also serve as Emergency Medical Coordinator.
Flag football another success at Otwell Ruritan celebration
Approximately 25 individuals gathered in Otwell for the fourth annual Flag Football tournament at the Ruritan Celebration on Saturday. The players who participated ranged in age from nine to forty and included both men and women. Teams included residents from Washington, Vincennes and Pike County. According to organizer Hayden Cloe, “It was a little wet but not enough to make it hard to play and the heat wasn’t too bad.”

JASPER — Dorothy E. Eichmiller, 96, of Jasper, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away July 9, 2024. She was born in Dubois County on September 11, 1927 to Edward G. and Hilda D. (Krodel) Eichmiller. At the age of 9, she and family moved to Indianapolis where she lived until 2020 when she returned to Jasper to reside in Good Samaritan Assisted Living.
Season in review: Perry Central track
LEOPOLD — Perry Central track this season competed in meets at home, Boonville, Tell City, and Northeast Dubois as well as the postseason. Perry Central’s first meet of the year took place at Paoli against the Rams and the Commodores won both the boys and girls events. The boys scored 78 to Paoli’s 43 and the girls scored 97 points to 21 from the Rams. Overall, Perry Central finished first in 25 separate events such as the 3200 meter relay, 400-meter dash, high jump, long jump, and shot put.
