FERDINAND— Tuesday, July 2, 7 p.m. Meeting called to order by President Cheryl Hoffman. President Cheryl Hoffman welcomed all members. New Business: The formation of a website development group was discussed and Sherri Hilgeman made a motion to accept nominees Cheryl Hoffman, Yvonne Bertke, and Kathy Morrison. Vernita Heckel seconded the motion. Motion carried. The rented locker fees are increasing again so we will not renew the contract. Jane Potter emptied the locker and took home the totes with paper goods, Becky Fuller took the irons and plugins, and Mary Lou Luebbehusen took the quilt rack home. A budget meeting will be scheduled in the near future.
School board hears policy on use of wireless devices during instructional time
A new policy regarding students’ use of wireless devices during instructional time is being considered by the Warrick County School Board. Policy 5350 — Prohibition of Wireless Devices During Instructional Time — will bring significant changes to the three county high schools. The first reading on the policy change was conducted on June 24 and would align the school corporation’s policy with the state’s policy.

BOONVILLE — The Warrick County Museum is hosting Jazz Night with the Honey Roy Jazz & Blues Band on Saturday, July 27. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the show starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20. Coroners Report
PERRY COUNTY —Coroner Warren Taylor had a busy weekend with multiple deaths that were considered tragic in nature. Taylor stated that it started on Friday when he was called out to a home for a 35-year-old male with a self-inflicted gunshot wound on 13th street in Tell City. The man passed away in his residence. The body was released to Zircher-Gillick Funeral Home.

Post 254 opens weekend with victory over West Terre Haute
PRINCETON — Rockport Post 254 rallied from an early deficit to beat West Terre Haute Post 501 10-5 in American Legion baseball on Friday. Trailing 3-2 heading to the bottom of the third inning, Ty Brown led off with a single but was caught stealing second base. Evan McClain and Hudson Allen followed with back-to-back singles and Seth Deom loaded the bases with his one-out single.
SIEC receives $175,000 from Ascend Indiana to pilot youth apprenticeship program
INDIANAPOLIS — The Southern Indiana Education Center in Jasper will be the recipient of $175,000 to launch a youth apprenticeship pilot program for the surrounding area. The funds through Ascend Indiana, the talent and workforce development initiative of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP), announced Tuesday the award of $175,000 each to four sites to launch youth apprenticeship pilots in their local communities.

Attempted Murder Arrest
A late night dispute between neighbors has resulted in the arrest of Tyler Richardson, 32, of St. Croix, for Attempted Murder and several other felony offenses. On Sunday, July 7, at approximately 11:50 p.m., area police responded to a residence located at 12095 SR 62, St. Croix, after a verbal argument between neighbors about a barking dog ended with gunfire and a family member being seriously injured. Preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police revealed Richardson confronted his neighbors about their barking dog. At one point during the confrontation, James Morris, 32, of Tell City, walked toward the property line and was allegedly shot by Richardson with a handgun. Morris was unarmed and was visiting his in-laws, which has the property next to Richardson. Three other adults and two children were nearby when the shooting occurred. Morris was transported to Harrison County Hospital by family members before being airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital where he is currently being treated for gunshot wounds. Richardson is currently in the Perry County Jail.

Janet Ann (Schmett) Chanley, age 79, of Huntingburg
Janet Ann (Schmett) Chanley, age 79, of Huntingburg, died at 2:49 p.m., Friday, July 5, 2024, at Heritage Pointe in Huntington, Indiana. She was born November 11, 1944, in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Albert and Sarah (Maxey) Schmett of Huntingburg. She married Elwayne Chanley on August 29, 1964, at Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg. Janet and her husband Elwayne, and brother Mike Schmett formed Schmett Farms, Inc. of which she was the secretary for many years. Janet also served as church secretary for Salem United Church of Christ for several years and later was a relay for life coordinator for Southwestern Indiana for the American Cancer Society.
