City of Huntingburg breaks ground on new water treatment plant
HUNTINGBURG, Ind. (WEVV) — Huntingburg has seen several flooding and sewer issues, so they say this new project is vital for the community. Eric Parsley, a project manager with Commonwealth Engineers, says, "When it rains in Huntingburg our flows go up almost five times what the plant currently can really handle."

Holiday World will be open 7 extra days in August
SANTA CLAUS, Ind. (WISH) — Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari is giving visitors a few more days to enjoy some fun in the sun. Seven days have been added to the August operating calendar, totaling more than 60 additional hours for the month, the theme park announced Tuesday.
Jasper Utilities to Begin Mill Street Water Main Replacement
The Jasper Utility Service Board convened in their regular session on Monday night with a full agenda of preventative maintenance and equipment purchases for the city. Quotes were opened for an electric dump truck purchase, and the low bid was accepted from Uebelhor, pending review. Bids were then opened for a sludge heater replacement and will be taken under advisement before making a selection.

Indiana University right-handed pitcher and Jasper High School graduate Connor Foley was chosen Monday afternoon by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth round with the 164th overall pick. The selection has a slot value of $392,300.
Parade of Homes features 15 houses in July; one in Tell City
The 66th annual Parade of Homes begins July 20 featuring 15 newly built homes by 11 homebuilders. The event will start this weekend on July 20-21 and continue the following weekend, July 27-28. Houses will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Just in time for the dog days of summer, Evansville’s first mobile dog gym offers climate-controlled exercise for canines. The Running Lab is owned by Tyler and Alexis Kneer and housed in an air-conditioned trailer. Dogs can walk or run on a slat mill—a non-motorized treadmill—for 30-minute sessions.

Phyllis Jean (Tormohlen) Luker
Phyllis Jean (Tormohlen) Luker, 84, peacefully passed away at 11:35 p.m. EST on July 10, 2024 at Willowdale Nursing Home in Dale, Ind. Her loving daughter was by her side. Known as “Duffy” to many, Phyllis was born on Nov. 30, 1939 to Albert and Louise (Weitkamp) Tormohlen. She married Paul D. Luker Sept. 12, 1958. They had two children, Scott and Suzanne. Phyllis was an adored grandmother to seven and great-grandmother to sixteen. She loved her family with her whole heart and enjoyed the days when she could frequently attend her grandchildren’s sporting events. To them, she was “Grandma Duffy,” which she proudly would agree was her favorite name.
John W. “Bill” Toby
John W. “Bill” Toby, age 69 of Jasper, Ind., passed away at 7:25 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Ind. Bill was born in Huntingburg, Ind. on Oct. 29, 1954 to Joseph and Caroline (Hasenour) Toby. He married Clara Mendel in 1986 in Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg, Ind.

Those on hand Sunday at League Stadium saw Uebelhor do his thing on the mound against the Lafayette Aviators — turning in a scoreless performance through the first five innings and retiring nine straight Aviators at one point.
