Just in time for the dog days of summer, Evansville’s first mobile dog gym offers climate-controlled exercise for canines. The Running Lab is owned by Tyler and Alexis Kneer and housed in an air-conditioned trailer. Dogs can walk or run on a slat mill—a non-motorized treadmill—for 30-minute sessions.

Charles N. “Charlie” Schroeder
Charles N. “Charlie” Schroeder, age 75 of Greencastle, Ind., formerly of Jasper, Ind., passed away at Noon on Friday, July 12, 2024 at his residence in St. Anthony, Ind. Charlie was born in Jasper, Ind. on Feb. 1, 1949 to Joseph and Esther (Fischer) Schroeder. He married his wife of 53 years, Ruth Berg on July 17, 1971 in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
Vendors benefit South Spencer
ROCKPORT — South Spencer High School hosted a large vendor fair in the auditorium to beat the heat of the summer on Saturday, July 13. The fair offered booths from about 40 vendors with a large variety of wares. Shoppers had a nice selection of goods to choose from. All proceeds are set to benefit South Spencer’s extracurricular programs and groups.
Patricia Gail (DeWitt) Russelburg
Patricia Gail Russelburg, 71, 0f Hawesville, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at her home under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born in Breckinridge County on October 8, 1952 to the late Jasper and Bernice Brown Dewitt. Gail was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a retired security guard. She enjoyed yard sales, “junking” and horses. Gail was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Rachele Ress and son-in-law, James G. McCrary.
Phyllis Jean (Tormohlen) Luker
Phyllis Jean (Tormohlen) Luker, 84, peacefully passed away at 11:35 p.m. EST on July 10, 2024 at Willowdale Nursing Home in Dale, Ind. Her loving daughter was by her side. Known as “Duffy” to many, Phyllis was born on Nov. 30, 1939 to Albert and Louise (Weitkamp) Tormohlen. She married Paul D. Luker Sept. 12, 1958. They had two children, Scott and Suzanne. Phyllis was an adored grandmother to seven and great-grandmother to sixteen. She loved her family with her whole heart and enjoyed the days when she could frequently attend her grandchildren’s sporting events. To them, she was “Grandma Duffy,” which she proudly would agree was her favorite name.

DALE — Dorothy A. Strobel, 85, of Dale, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024. She was born Jan. 21, 1939, in New Boston to Hubert and Elsie (Friedel) Brinksneader; and married James A Strobel on June 24, 1961, at St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in New Boston. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi/St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dale. Together, Dorothy and James traveled to 48 different states. She enjoyed bird watching, especially cardinals, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James A Strobel, who passed away on May 24, 2014; and brother, Ronald Brinksneader.

John W. “Bill” Toby, age 69 of Jasper, Ind., passed away at 7:25 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Ind. Bill was born in Huntingburg, Ind. on Oct. 29, 1954 to Joseph and Caroline (Hasenour) Toby. He married Clara Mendel in 1986 in Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg, Ind.

Those on hand Sunday at League Stadium saw Uebelhor do his thing on the mound against the Lafayette Aviators — turning in a scoreless performance through the first five innings and retiring nine straight Aviators at one point.

DUBOIS— Saturday, Sept. 28, 8 a.m. The Patoka Lake Watershed Steering Committee will host its annual Patoka Lake Clean Up Day in conjunction with National Public Lands Day. The event will begin at 8 a.m. at the Patoka Lake Corps of Engineers office, 4512 N. Cuzco Road, Dubois. Participants of all ages and abilities can sign up on location and will be assigned an area to pick up trash and recycling. At 11 a.m., all volunteers will return to the dam for a free fish fry, door prizes, and goodie bags. All of the supplies needed for the cleanup will be provided. To volunteer, you must wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes, and long pants. Since 2008, the cleanup event, led by the Patoka Lake Watershed Steering Committee, has hosted a grand total of 1,900 volunteers who collected over 22.3 TONS of trash from in or around Patoka Lake. Service and youth groups are asked to register in advance by contacting the Patoka Lake Nature Center at 812-338-5589 ext. 3. Students receiving a 3.9 grade point average or higher are placed on the chancellor's list, while those receiving a grade point average of between 3.5 and 3.89 are named to the deans' list. The lists recognize students' outstanding academic achievements. UAF is a Land, Sea and Space Grant institution and is the leading doctoral degree-granting institution in the state of Alaska.
