Flag football another success at Otwell Ruritan celebration
Approximately 25 individuals gathered in Otwell for the fourth annual Flag Football tournament at the Ruritan Celebration on Saturday. The players who participated ranged in age from nine to forty and included both men and women. Teams included residents from Washington, Vincennes and Pike County. According to organizer Hayden Cloe, “It was a little wet but not enough to make it hard to play and the heat wasn’t too bad.”

Elizabeth Burch Schwartz
Elizabeth Burch Schwartz, 94, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2024. She was born July 27, 1929, in Petersburg, Indiana, to Lloyd and Amy Burch. Zee, as she was known to family and friends, was a devoted wife and mother. She graduated from Purdue University and began her career as a home economics teacher before she prioritized family over career. Zee was very active in her Huntingburg community. She was a member of the Library Board, Study Club, Sunday School Teacher and pianist for the United Methodist Church’s early morning service. She was an amazing cook and loved to entertain. She also loved to travel and did so into her 80’s. She also loved music and attending concerts with her daughter, Karen.

Rockport's offense too much for Madisonville in 11-1 win
MADISONVILLE, Ky. — A fast start allowed Rockport Post 254 to dominate Madisonville Post 6 in an 11-1 victory in American Legion baseball played July 2. Post 254 capitalized on walks in the first inning and loaded the bases on free passes to Ty Brown, Evan McClain and Seth Deom. A bases-loaded walk to Blake Taylor scored Brown, giving Rockport a 1-0 lead.
Season in review: Perry Central track
LEOPOLD — Perry Central track this season competed in meets at home, Boonville, Tell City, and Northeast Dubois as well as the postseason. Perry Central’s first meet of the year took place at Paoli against the Rams and the Commodores won both the boys and girls events. The boys scored 78 to Paoli’s 43 and the girls scored 97 points to 21 from the Rams. Overall, Perry Central finished first in 25 separate events such as the 3200 meter relay, 400-meter dash, high jump, long jump, and shot put.

JASPER — Dorothy E. Eichmiller, 96, of Jasper, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away July 9, 2024. She was born in Dubois County on September 11, 1927 to Edward G. and Hilda D. (Krodel) Eichmiller. At the age of 9, she and family moved to Indianapolis where she lived until 2020 when she returned to Jasper to reside in Good Samaritan Assisted Living.
