With sweep of Indians, Comets close in on NEIC softball title
WAUKON — Charles City rallied for 5 runs in the top of the 12th inning to finally defeat a stubborn Waukon Indians team 15-10 in the first game of Wednesday’s rescheduled Northeast Iowa Conference softball doubleheader, then completed the sweep with a 19-4 victory called after six innings in the second game.

Despite losing a lot of talent and production from last season, there's optimism that they can be a top-25 team with what's returning and what they've added. Body of missing kayaker recovered in Lake Michigan near Glen Haven
GLEN ARBOR — The Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office said the body of a missing kayaker was found on Tuesday, three days after he disappeared. Deputies said Eric Tyler Gabryel, from Capac, MI, and a woman both left the Glen Haven area on kayaks Saturday morning. Around 3 p.m., Gabryel’s kayak took on water. The woman told deputies she tried to help but her kayak started taking on water too. A passing boater helped the woman get back to shore, but Gabryel disappeared below the surface. The woman was taken to the hospital. The Sheriff’s Office, National Park Service, Glen Lake Fire and Rescue, Michigan State Police, the Coast Guard, the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office, Northern Michigan Mutual Aid Dive Team, and the DNR all assisted in the search.
Crawford County Crime Stoppers asking for assistance with Hit and Run Accident in Wauzeka
On Thursday, June 20th, 2024, at approximately 1:24 p.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a hit-and-run crash in the Village of Wauzeka. An investigation determined that a John Deere tractor sideswiped a semi pulling a trailer and the operator of the John Deere tractor left the crash scene. The Sheriff’s Office is attempting to identify the owner and/or operator of the John Deere tractor, review the attached picture.

Midwest Veterans of America to honor area veterans at Birth of America event Sunday
Midwest Veterans of America will be hosting a Fourth of July event to celebrate the Birth of America Sunday, July 7 at the Sweeney Shelter near the Allamakee County Freedom Rock in the Waukon City Park. The free event will begin at 11 a.m. and will honor 41 area Veterans with a cook-out meal followed by an awards presentation that will begin at 1 p.m.

Earl W. Crary, 66, of Garnavillo passed away Monday, June 24, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a 10 year battle with cancer. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Friday, July 5, at Morris Funeral Home in Garnavillo where a memorial service will commence at 1 p.m. Pastor Paul Losik will officiate.
