Gary Allan Kittelson, 77 of Clermont, Iowa passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024. A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Heritage Farm Park in Clermont, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clermont Fire and Ambulance Departments.
David Arnold Pleggenkuhle
David Arnold Pleggenkuhle, 87, died June 26th , 2024 peacefully in Hawkeye, Iowa. David was the son of Arnold and Elma (West) Pleggenkuhle and a life-long resident of Hawkeye. He graduated from Hawkeye High School in 1955, from Upper Iowa University in 1959, and served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962. He was part of his family’s business, Hawkeye Hatchery, from 1952 to 1997. The business over the years included trucking, custom harvesting, an egg route, hatching and selling Dekalb baby chicks and Dekalb seed corn, and a small farming endeavor. The hatchery part of the business closed in 1997 after 45 years but David continued farming until his death.

It’s time to celebrate Clermont’s first 175 years
Fayette County’s historic Brick City will celebrate its 175th anniversary Friday-Sunday. The commemorative event begins at 1:30 p.m. Friday with a showing of the movie, “The Straight Story” at the Clermont Public Library. The movie includes film footage shot in West Union and Clermont. Production of the film took place in Clermont from Oct. 6-19, 1998.
Construction zone crash Saturday injures three
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a three-vehicle collision at the construction stoplight on Highway 150 at Fayette, shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday, June 29. A 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Paul Brian Damge, 56, of Windsor Heights, was driving southbound on Hwy 150 and did not slow down for the construction stoplight at the beginning of the bridge reconstruction. Damge’s vehicle rear-ended a 2023 Ford Maverick, operated by Roger Post, 61, of Fayette. Post’s vehicle was sitting at the red light before the bridge, waiting for traffic to pass.

STRAWBERRY POINT (ISU) — A total of 50 youth, in grades fourth through sixth grade, from Fayette, Clayton, and Buchanan County were able to embark on a day long adventure of R.O.P.E.S, Reaching Our Potential Extraordinary Self! 4-H Junior Day Camp. Fayette County 4-H members enjoyed the day at Ewalu on June 13th, 2024. Throughout the day, the youth experienced many ways to be a leader and push themselves to try new things.
High waters in the Mississippi River cause flooding for neighboring town
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Recent storms have created a rush of water into Wisconsin rivers and lakes, causing issues for towns nearby. The Village of Cassville is located right on the Mississippi River and has experienced flooding due to the high water levels in the river. The village ferry has shut down along with all boat launches, as they are under water.
