Waukon baseball team splits four games played, including sweep of Charles City, losses to MFL/MarMac and sixth-rated New Hampton
The Waukon baseball team played to a split of what amounted to four games being played this past week, getting both those wins the first night of the week with a home doubleheader sweep of Charles City Monday, June 24 by scores of 12-6 and 10-0 in six innings. The Indians then fell to MFL/MarMac at home, 16-9, Wednesday, June 26 before falling by just a 4-3 result in a five-inning game played at Class 2A sixth-rated New Hampton that was supposed to be part of a road doubleheader Friday, June 28 but instead had its second contest postponed to this Wednesday, July 3.

Dillon and Abie Daniel of Waukon announce the birth of their son, Miles Lucas Daniel, born June 24, 2024 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. He weighed 6 lbs. 13 ozs. and measured 19-1/2 inches in length at the time of his birth. He joins siblings, Livvy (3) and Owen (2).
Waukon softball team suffers trio of NEIC losses to New Hampton and Decorah, secures lone win of the week at home against MFL/MarMac
The Waukon softball team posted one win in four games played this past week, dropping three games in Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) play and having its lone win come against an Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) opponent. The Lady Indians first made up their Friday, June 21 postponed home game with New Hampton Monday, June 24, falling by a 2-0 result, before being swept at Decorah, 10-0 in six innings and 12-2 in five frames, Tuesday, June 25. The softball Tribe wrapped up its schedule of played games with a 5-0 win at home over MFL/MarMac Thursday, June 27 before their Friday, June 28 game at Waverly-Shell Rock was postponed by weather to Friday, June 5 in a game to now be played at 2 p.m. in Decorah.

STRAWBERRY POINT (ISU) — A total of 50 youth, in grades fourth through sixth grade, from Fayette, Clayton, and Buchanan County were able to embark on a day long adventure of R.O.P.E.S, Reaching Our Potential Extraordinary Self! 4-H Junior Day Camp. Fayette County 4-H members enjoyed the day at Ewalu on June 13th, 2024. Throughout the day, the youth experienced many ways to be a leader and push themselves to try new things.

DECORAH — WinnMed Pharmacy's delivery has expanded. To further serve the community, WinnMed Pharmacy has expanded its delivery service to the Ossian community. With prior arrangement, prescriptions can be delivered to the Ossian clinic on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Patients can then stop in at their convenience to pick up their medications. Brooklyn “Brook” Marie Scherf, age 41, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at University of Iowa Hospital. Brook was born Feb. 18, 1983, in Elkader, to William Robert Scherf III and Michelle Marie (French) Scherf. Following high school, she lived in Dubuque, under the care of Hills and Dales, who were considered to be her second family. She worked at a variety of companies and had recently started her new job at Captured on Canvas. Brook was excited about working there.

Earl W. Crary
Earl W. Crary, 66, of Garnavillo, passed away Monday, June 24, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a 10-year battle with cancer. Earl was born on Dec. 8, 1957, and was raised in St. Olaf on the Crary Farmstead. Earl married JoAnn (Fangman) on Aug. 28, 1982, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elkader. Together, they raised five children.
James A. Walter
Amazing Grace has called Dad home. James Allyn Walter was born on March 28, 1939 to Glen and Emma (Huckstadt) Walter at the Postville Hospital. He was baptized on May 7, 1939 and confirmed in 1953 at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. He attended grade school at the Eno school just north of his home farm. He finished high school in ‘57 at Luana, where he played basketball and baseball. He took over the farm at a very early age.
