Volunteer firefighters walk after Strawberry Point City Council cuts ties with fire chief
STRAWBERRY POINT, Iowa — A large crowd turned out for Wednesday's Strawberry Point City Council meeting, where the fire department was a large topic on the agenda. City council members voted on whether or not to keep the town's fire chief in his title. In a 4-2 vote, Nic Stelken will not be the town's fire chief any longer.
Crestwood girls bounce Waukon; fall to Comets; lose to Hawks in regionals
MANCHESTER - The Crestwood softball team concluded the regular season by splitting road games against Waukon and Charles City. On July 8, the Cadets rallied to defeat the Waukon Indians, 7-2. Taking on Charles City on July 9, a late rally by Crestwood fell short as the Comets held on for a 9-6 win.

Strawberry Point Council Votes Against Reappointing Fire Chief
The Strawberry Point City Council voted no on reappointing Fire Chief Nic Stelken on Wednesday night, which means the fire department remains out of service. Last Thursday, the Strawberry Point Fire Department announced they were out of service immediately due to the continued lack of support from the mayor and city council. Members of the department voluntarily made the unanimous decision to turn in their pagers.

Paul Welsh, age 82 of Wauzeka, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024. The funeral service for Paul will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at the Kendall Funeral Service, 209 Mary Street, Boscobel. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Paul will be laid to rest at the Wauzeka Cemetery. Pork Tornadoes to headline Friday's grandstand entertainment; Variety of activities and events planned. Gardening and pizza went together perfectly in Waukon and Lansing at recent youth sessions hosted by Allamakee County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Youth learned the different parts of a plant, and how each part is edible depending on the fruit or vegetable. It was discussed which parts help make a pizza, while everyone designed their perfect pizza. Ideas ranged from pepperoni to ice cream to candy pizza. Youth used English muffins to make personal pizzas for lunch.
