One person dead after accident on U.S. 31 at County Road 800N
One person was killed in a collision on southbound U.S. 31 near the Indiana Premium Outlets Thursday. Two dark-colored pickup trucks were involved in the 12:11 p.m. crash, just south of County Road 800N. Traffic on both northbound and southbound lanes were rerouted onto Executive Way and Presidential Lane to 800N while first responders were on the scene.
Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies, Edinburgh police investigating fatal accident on North U.S. 31
At approximately 12:11 p.m. Thursday, deputies responded to an accident with injury near the intersection of North U.S. 31 and County Road West 800 North. Dispatch advised deputies that there was a male with significant injuries on the scene as a result of being struck by a vehicle. Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim had stopped to assist another motorist with their disabled vehicle.
Crew Carwash to have Big Brothers Big Sisters fundraiser
Crew Carwash, an Indiana-based family business with a location in Columbus, is partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters for its 15th annual Crew for Kids fundraiser. Crew will donate half of the proceeds from its Ultimate Wash to Brig Brothers Big Sisters during the event on July 27, in all 48 Indiana locations.
Franklin lauds long-time volunteer, car show organizer
After giving back for the last decade, a Franklin man was recognized for his service this week. John Wales was named the Marty and Carolyn Williams Volunteer of the Year Award at the city council meeting on Monday. Mayor Steve Barnett said the city’s annual volunteer award is named after the Williams couple “for their commitment of time, energy and efforts they devoted (to) our Franklin community.”

Charles L. Wood
Charles L. Wood, 87 of Franklin and formerly of Brooksville, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 with his four daughters by his side. He was born on August 14, 1936 in Sonora, Kentucky to Paul L. and Maggie L. (Coomer) Wood. He married Patricia (Azzarella) Wood. She survives. He is also survived by his four daughters, Deborah Beck (Lynn), Pam Prosser (Brent), Leslie Wood and Cheryl Moran (Kevin); ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and brother, Robert Wood (Sue); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in passing by his parents; brothers, George Wood, Larry Wood and Carl Wood; and his first wife, Ann (Sanders) Wood.
Excel Center hosting open house Thursday

The Connersville Spartanette Dance Team came away with Excellent ratings for their Home and Team Lead Routines at the 2024 National Dance Alliance team camp at Ball State University in Muncie last week. The Spartanettes earned a gold plaque for a Superior Team Routine, the Heart-Of-Gold Certificate, the St. Jude’s Spirit Stick (awarded to one team in recognition of their support for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital), five Spirit Ribbons, and one Showmanship Ribbon as a team.
C. Dale Waltz
C. Dale Waltz, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on July 17, 2024 at his home in Trafalgar with his family by his side. Dale was born January 13, 1931 at Atterbury, to his parents, the late James Leslie and Lena (Coy) Waltz. He was a 1949 graduate of Trafalgar High School and went on to serve as a Corporal with the 370th Engineer Company of the United States Army during the Korean War. Dale was honorably discharged on May 21, 1953 after returning from Baumholder, Germany. He retired in 1991 from Design Printing in Indianapolis where he worked as a Bindery Man. Prior to that, Dale held the same position at Progressive Printing in Indianapolis and Rexham Printing in Edinburgh. After retirement he worked for G R Smith &Son Contracting in Trafalgar. Dale also worked on his family farm raising cattle, pigs, chickens, corn and soybeans.
