Cummins receives DOE money for historic switch to making electric engines
COLUMBUS, Indiana — A Cummins plant with a long history of producing diesel engines will use federal money to switch to making electric motors and batteries. The Columbus Engine Plant, known within Cummins as a cornerstone of its operations, is set to undergo a significant transformation. With a $75 million grant from the Department of Energy and an additional $75 million from Cummins, the plant will be renovated to accommodate the production of electric powertrains overseen by Accelera, a Cummins division.

FRANKLIN — Schyler L. Altherr of Pendleton received an award and scholarship during a recent Spring Honors Convention at Franklin College. The recognition was for exceptional scholarly efforts during the 2023-24 academic year. Falling Library Shelves Injure Patron
One person was injured on July 9 when some shelving collapsed at the Franklin Township Library’s main branch on DeMott Lane. The person, who was not identified, was treated by EMTs but declined to be taken to a hospital, said January Adams, the library’s Director of Library Services.

Accelera by Cummins Awarded $75 Million for Zero-Emissions Manufacturing from Department of Energy
Cummins Inc. announced that the company has been awarded $75 million to convert approximately 360,000 sq. ft. of existing manufacturing space at its Columbus (Indiana) Engine Plant (CEP) for zero-emissions components and electric powertrain systems. The $75 million grant is the largest federal grant ever awarded solely to Cummins and is part of the appropriations related to the Inflation Reduction Act.
