Former Manchester United assistant manager Eric Ramsay is on the brink of being shown the door by Minnesota United after a punishing nine-game winless run.

Ramsay, who previously served under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford , ventured into his first managerial role in the MLS in February. He steered Minnesota United to an impressive start in the MLS, positioning them as unexpected challengers in the Western Conference.

However, following a harsh streak of six defeats and three ties, Ramsey's position has come under intense scrutiny. Minnesota United currently languish as the MLS's most out-of-sorts squad, with Ramsay leaning on ex-Premier League forward Teemu Pukki for goals, though he too has hit a rough patch.

Upon his departure from United earlier this year, Ramsay was lauded as the club's brightest young coaching talent, choosing to embrace the challenge with the MLS side.

Prior to his stint at United, Ramsay cut his teeth as an U23 assistant coach at Chelsea and also gained experience internationally with Rob Page's Wales. Page has extolled Ramsay's virtues, stating: "Eric is arguably one of the best young coaches in football at this moment in time."

Despite a tough nine-game winless streak, Minnesota is still in the playoff race, currently sitting ninth in the Western Conference with 10 games left to potentially secure a postseason spot.

Ramsay had previously declined several opportunities in England before making his move to the MLS. He reportedly attracted interest from Swansea City and Blackpool over the past year before deciding to join Minnesota.

Minnesota is back in action against bottom of the table San Jose on Sunday July 21. Ramsay's side was beaten 3-2 by D.C. United on Thursday, with the visitors scoring two goals in added time including a dramatic winner from Christian Benteke.

“We have really lacked that desire and killer instinct to close a game out,” Ramsay said postgame. “There is no one in (the locker room who) is going to disagree with me in that sense.”
