Central City juniors are headed to state undefeated
CENTRAL CITY - All the Central City juniors do is win and they’re taking a 25-0, undefeated record to state. “It was the goal from day one,” Central City coach Ben Nelson said. “We made it last year and we had a lot of guys come back and it’s been on our mind the whole time and you still gotta get through these games here and winning a district is so tough.”

FULLERTON—Todd Michael Hellbusch, 60, of Fullerton, passed away Monday, July 15, 2024, at Boone County Health Center in Albion, as a result of a motorcycle accident. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2024, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Fullerton with Reverend James Gruber officiating. Burial will follow at Peace Lutheran Cemetery near Belgrade. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, July 18th at Palmer-Santin Funeral Home in Fullerton. Palmer-Santin Funeral Home is serving the family.

Grand Island church works to combat food insecurity

Man sentenced for role in Grand Island Best Buy theft spree
One of four men charged in connection to a grab-and-dash at a Grand Island Best Buy last year has been sentenced. Huthaifa Mesfin, 21, was sentenced Friday to three years in prison on one count of criminal attempt of theft by unlawful taking. He was given credit for 113 days served.
Aurora man arrested after trying to meet 13-year-old for sex, police say
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KOLN) - An Aurora man is facing over a dozen charges after being arrested for child enticement, police said. The Grand Island Police Department arrested 54-year-old James Wert on Thursday. He faces a total of 17 charges, all involving use of a device to either entice or commit a sexual assault. The charges vary between Class IV and Class ID felonies.

All crimes reported in this news media report are felonies for the past 24 hours. For more information on reports, please contact Capt. Dean Elliott. Brief Narrative: On 07-16-2024 at approximately 0049 hours, officer observed a vehicle turn west onto 10th St without using a turn signal. Officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver as Richard Davidson. Officer would see a syringe in the pouch of his driver door. When officer returned to the vehicle, the syringe was moved. Officer would conduct a probable cause search of the vehicle. Richard would tell officers that he threw the syringe out the window. Officers did not locate a syringe outside of the vehicle. Officers would locate a syringe behind his dash of the vehicle with a bag containing methamphetamine (0.2G). Officers located other syringes and other paraphernalia in the vehicle. Officer would ask Richard where he threw the syringe and he advised he did not throw it out but was found. Richard Davidson was arrested for Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Controlled Substance and Tamper With Physical Evidence.
