Grand Island police chase two vehicles in separate incidents
Grand Island, Neb. — Grand Island Police are investigating after two vehicles fled from officers in three separate incidents Monday night. According to GIPD, at 7:15 p.m., an officer observed a white Chevy Tahoe traveling at the intersection of Capital Avenue and Taylor Avenue six to 10 MPH over the posted 40 MPH speed limit. When the officer attempted to stop the Tahoe, GIPD said the driver, a 17-year-old male, then turned onto Taylor Avenue and fled the officer at a high rate of speed.
Merlon K. ‘Sam’ Bedke, 85
Merlon Keith “Sam” Bedke, 85, was born on May 23, 1939, at his family home in Ravenna. He was the youngest of seven children born to Frank and Edna Bedke. Sam loved reminiscing about their farm family and the hard work, shenanigans, and love shared. His family loved hearing about the pet crow, and other special creatures on their farm. Fishing the sand pits in Nebraska was especially enjoyable to Sam. He attended Ravenna High School and told many stories of his high school football career and time with friends. He always kept his connection to Ravenna friends, families, and neighbors.

Randy Beckman and a team of volunteers are planning to take down pieces of several vintage signs in Marquette during the next month, part of what he hopes is a short-term solution to a dispute involving the village’s ordinances regarding commercial signage. Beckman is a collector of vintage signs, hanging smaller versions in Scotty’s Bar on Main Street, which he and his wife have owned for several years. About 10 years ago, he started collecting large signs touting commercial oil and gas companies, which eventually led to signs of trouble with the Marquette Village Board.

GI Home Federal Has A 4-0 Weekend To End Regular Season
(Kearney, NE) - The Grand Island Home Federal baseball team wrapped up the regular season this past weekend with a 4-0 mark. Home Federal first started off with a comeback 3-2 win over Millard South on Friday in Hastings. GI then returned to Duncan Field on Saturday and defeated Lincoln Northstar by a final score of 4-1. Game two Saturday was a 13-0 win over the Colorado Dirt Devils. Home Federal then was placed in a Sunday match-up with Millard North in Kearney at Memorial Field. GI picked up the win by a final score of 3-1. Home Federal is currently on a seven-game winning streak heading into the post-season with an overall record of 31-9. Aurora man charged with child enticement, caught in undercover sting operation
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — An Aurora man faces charges after Grand Island Police said he enticed an officer posing as a 13-year-old girl. James Wert, 54, is charged in Hall County Court with six counts of child enticement by electronic device and 11 counts of enticement by electronic device.
First Amazon facility in central Nebraska opens
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) -Amazon launched its first site in Grand Island to help with customer demand. Amazon’s Grand Island facility is now up and running. The new distribution center is being called a last-mile facility as its main purpose is to help with the last mile of its packages delivery stage, according to Amazon.
Marquette man challenges village board over vintage gas station signs
MARQUETTE, Neb. (KSNB) - A Marquette resident is at odds with the village board after they demanded he remove his collection of vintage gas station signs. Randy Beckman has showcased vintage signs across his properties in Marquette for around 10 years. He believed his display was legal until earlier this year when the board discovered clauses that made his signs illegal.
