York Juniors fall to 6-6 with road loss at Central City/Fullerton
CENTRAL CITY- On Tuesday night the York Cornerstone Junior Kings were not even competitive against the Central City/Fullerton Post 6 Juniors losing 16-2 in York. On Wednesday, the two teams met in Central City and while the Juniors could not break the CC/Fullerton juniors win string, they only trailed 4-3 through 3 ½ innings before the hosts plated four in the fourth and pulled away for the 9-3 win.

Grand Island native still remembered in Belgium after World War II emergency landing
On Oct. 17, 1944, a B-17 bomber piloted by Grand Island native Perry E. Powell made an emergency landing in a field near the town of Wichelen, Belgium. Before the landing, seven members of the nine-member crew parachuted to safety. All nine of the men were warmly welcomed by the citizens of Wichelen.

Five Submit their Names for District Court Judge in the Tenth Judicial District
LINCOLN – Melodie T. Bellamy, Kearney; Matthew C. Boyle, Grand Island; Dale T. Callahan, Hastings; Timothy E. Hoeft, Holdrege; and John A. Sauder, Holdrege, have submitted applications for appointment as District Court Judge in the 10th Judicial District consisting of Adams, Clay, Franklin, Harlan, Kearney, Nuckolls, Phelps, and Webster counties. The primary place of office for the judicial vacancy shall be either Hastings, Adams County, Nebraska; Minden, Kearney County, Nebraska; or Holdrege, Phelps County, Nebraska, at the option of the appointed judge. The vacancy is due to the retirement of Judge Terri S. Harder.
Legion Baseball: Columbus Defeats Grand Island Wednesday Night
(Grand Island, NE) - The second comeback for Grand Island Home Federal on Wednesday night at Ryder Park fell just short falling to Columbus Cornerstone Insurance by a final score of 12-11 in 12 innings. It's the second time in little over a week that GI has played an extra-inning game. Last Tuesday Home Federal fell at Kearney in 14 innings 3-2. In the game vs Columbus, GI trailed early 5-1 after three and a half innings. GI would start the rally scoring one run in the bottom of the fourth. One more run in the bottom in the fifth which then made it 5-3 Columbus after five innings. A scoreless sixth would then take the game to the final inning of regulation with Columbus scoring one run to make it a 6-3 game.
