In a notice sent to the Minnesota DEED Office and the city of St. Peter, Alumacraft announced the company was laying off 106 workers employed at the St. Peter-based manufacturing plant, Thursday.

The federally-mandated notice, written by site director Scott Wilkings, stated that the layoffs were permanent. No reason was given for the mass layoff.

This notice marked the second round of mass layoffs by the St. Peter-based fishing boat manufacturer. In September, the employer laid off 68 employees.

The layoffs included 15 fabricators across two departments, 13 hull assemblers, and 10 employees in final assembly among other positions.

For over 50 years, the aluminum boat manufacturer has been a significant employer in St. Peter since moving the aluminum boat manufacturing operations to the community in 1970. The plant previously employed around 200 workers prior to the recent round of layoffs.
