St. Peter senior Kaiden Brovold and sophomore Owen Matejcek traveled to Jordan’s Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course to compete in the class AA State Championship Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. With storms forcing significant delays Wednesday, the final round was cut to nine holes with Brovold finishing in a tie for 17th while Matejcek finished tied for 46th in the 88 player field.

Brovold, competing in his fourth and final MSHSL State Championship meet, claimed the tie for 17th with a 27-hole total of 114 strokes (+6). He finished the event with 16 total pars as well as a trio of birdies on holes No.

Matejcek meanwhile competed in his first state championship tournament and experienced a more uneven pair of rounds. Despite the challenges and additional pressure, Owen managed a trio of birdies while adding 12 par finishes to claim a share of a nine-way tie for 46th in the state.

The two-day event marks the end of an illustrious H.S. career for Brovold who’s consistency on the links allowed him to qualify for the state tournament every season beginning his freshman year. Brovold is part of a group of seniors including Anthony Nicolai, Blake Magelee, Korey Lager and Riley Lager, that has seen unprecedented success for the St. Peter Saints boys golf program.

The team earned Big South Conference titles in two of the last three seasons as well as a section runner-up finish in three of the last four years in the ultra-competitive Section 2AA.
