Jazz singer Synia Carroll will celebrate new album during intimate St. Pete gig this week

Synia Carroll, who plays Side Door Cabaret at Palladium Theater in St. Petersburg, Florida on May 24, 2024.
The Sarasota-based jazz singer is about to celebrate the release of her brand-new album Water Is My Song.

On it, Synia Carroll’s empowering vocals reverse the genders on a double-bass heavy version of The Beatles’ “Norwegian Wood,” and a flamenco-meets-flute fusion comes into play on “Learning How to Fly.”

In her voice, you can hear just a little bit of influences from Nina Simone to Diane Reeves, and though I’d usually say how Hough Hall inside St. Pete’s Palladium Theater is always the more ideal choice, the 99-year-old building’s Side Door Cabaret is the perfect spot to hold a 20th century-style jazz party such as this.

Tickets to see Synia Carroll play Side Door Cabaret at St. Petersburg's Palladium Theater on Friday, May 24 are still available and start at $35.
