Don’t miss this summer deal at St. Petersburg’s Dali Museum

The Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg is a huge draw for tourists and locals. It’s the largest collection of the Spanish surrealist Salvador Dalí's artwork outside of Spain, and it regularly presents special exhibitions featuring other giants of art history.

In recent years, it’s locally led the way in regards to the intersection of fine art and technology, with its digital “Dalí Alive 360°” exhibit housed in a dome on the museum grounds as the crown jewel of that venture.

But it can be expensive to go a world-class museum regularly. Adult admission is now $29, and the dome experience is a $15 add-on that usually requires the purchase of a ticket to the museum.

Now, there’s a deal called Dome Night during which you can purchase a ticket for just the dome for $20, and it is worth the price. It will be a regular deal once a month on Friday nights. The first one is July 5 from 6-8 p.m.

The museum has offered discounted admission ($14.50) on Thursdays from 5-8 p.m. for a long time. But once a month it becomes a party with a DJ and other festivities. The next one happens July 18.

The museum’s current exhibition, “Reimagining Nature: Dalí's Floral Fantasies,” is a must-see. See the imaginative ways Dalí riffed on existing botanical illustrations from the 18th and 19th centuries through three rarely exhibited suites of prints he made between 1968-1972. The works were his response and contribution to the pop art movement of the era.

The museum also continues its high-tech foray with “Ask Dalí,” a display of his iconic lobster telephone with which you “talk” to the artist using artificial intelligence. Surreal, indeed.

In the permanent collection there’s a new display of Dalí's jewels to lust after.

It’s always free to visit the museum’s store, Cafe Gala and the community room, which is curated with a show. On now is the Student Surrealist Showcase, an annual event that presents artwork from Florida middle and high school students inspired by Dalí and surrealism.
