Man shoots girlfriend, then himself at St. Pete apartment, police say

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A man and woman who were found dead Friday afternoon in an apartment in St. Petersburg died in an apparent murder-suicide, according to police.

The bodies were found after police were called at about 2:30 p.m. to Parklane Condominiums on 48th Avenue North for a welfare check.

They were identified as Callie Wright, 50, and Neville Victor Albert M Jones, 59.

Police said, Wright and Jones were in a relationship.

Investigators believe the Jones shot Wright and then shot himself, police said.

Christine Becher lives near the scene.

“The police came, one car, two car, three car, four car, five car,” she said. “It was a complete standstill here.”

“Unbelievable, that’s my reaction,” said Paul Stewart, one of Belcher’s neighbors.

“I couldn’t believe it, that something like this would happen right here,” he said. “We’ve lived here almost two years now.”

“We’ve never heard of anything happening that was something like this,” Stewart said.
