LISTEN: Exchange Students from St. Petersburg Head to Japan

ST. PETERSBURG -- Some students from the Tampa Bay area are leaving this weekend on a trip to Japan.

Three high school students are spending ten days in St. Petersburg's sister city of Takamatsu, where they'll immerse in the local culture. When they return, JoEllen Schilke says students from Takamatsu will arrive in Florida. "They'll get to visit.. the museums, visit our beaches, visit our waterfront," Schilke said.

St. Pete and Takamatsu have ties going back decades, but the student exchange program was suspended during the pandemic. The last travel restrictions in Japan ended last October.
