TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — An 83-year-old bicyclist was fatally hit by a car on Friday morning in St. Petersburg, according to police.

The man, identified as Juan Yhanes, was crossing 16th Street North in a crosswalk when the driver of a Dodge Journey, who had a green light, failed to yield while trying to make a left turn from 5th Avenue North, St. Petersburg police said.

Yhanes was taken to a hospital where he later died, police said. He was not wearing a helmet.

The driver remained at the location and is cooperating with law enforcement.

    The investigation remains ongoing.
