    Rays waste multiple scoring chances in quiet loss to Yankees

    ST. PETERSBURG — The Rays are trying to save their season and keep their boss from trading key pieces by taking advantage of an unexpected soft spot in their schedule. Beat the struggling Yankees, and they can regain needed momentum by winning another series.

    They certainly had their chances Wednesday.

    Lots of them, actually.

    But the Rays failed repeatedly to take advantage of prime scoring opportunities and lost 2-1.

    An 0-for-10 night with runners in scoring position included wasting four consecutive innings of having at least two runners reach base.
