ST. PETERSBURG — The Guardians gambled with two straight pinch-hitters in the eighth inning Saturday, and it paid off.

Tyler Freeman singled off Garrett Cleavinger, then Jhonkensy Noel brought him in with a monstrous home run to left-centerfield. That drove Cleveland to a 4-2 win over the Rays in front of an announced crowd of 19,946 at Tropicana Field.

The Rays have lost just two of their past six games and with Saturday’s setback, their streak of going into the All-Star break with a winning record will be snapped.
