Rays sending reliever Jason Adam to Padres as latest MLB trade deadline domino falls

Another reliever domino has fallen ahead of the MLB trade deadline, with Jason Adam — a key member of the Rays’ bullpen since 2022 — getting sent to the Padres in exchange for Dylan Lesko, Homer Bush Jr. and J.D. Gonzalez, The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed Sunday.

In 47 appearances this season, Adam has collected a 2.49 ERA with 50 walks and 16 strikeouts while operating in front of closer Pete Fairbanks.

He becomes the latest reliever to get dealt ahead of the July 30 deadline, too, with Angels closer Carlos Estevez getting moved to the Phillies on Saturday and Mariners reliever Ryne Stanek joining the Mets on Friday.

And that means for teams still in the market for a reliever, which reportedly includes the Yankees, their options have started to dwindle.

The Post’s Jon Heyman reported Saturday that the Yankees are one of six teams — along with the Orioles, Phillies, Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Mariners — pursuing star Marlins closer Tanner Scott , which would add to a bullpen that has been forced to navigate around the struggles of closer Clay Holmes and others.

Before their late-inning heroics Saturday in a win against the Red Sox , Michael Tonkin allowed two runs in the seventh that nearly lost the game for the Yankees until Trent Grisham tied the game with two outs — and a 2-2 count — in the ninth with an RBI double.

Holmes, despite making the All-Star Game earlier this month, collected a 7.15 ERA across his 12 outings between June 13 and July 26 before tossing two scoreless innings Saturday.

Heyman also reported Sunday that the Yankees have expressed interest in starting pitcher Blake Snell , though it’s unclear if the Giants would part with their starter who struck out 15 hitters in his most recent outing.

As the Rays’ trade deadline sale continued, with Adam leaving and then All-Star third baseman Isaac Paredes getting dealt to the Cubs on Sunday , the Padres — currently in possession of the second wild-card spot in the National League — added to their bullpen as they cling to that postseason chance and attempt to make a run at the Dodgers, who currently hold a 6 ½-game lead, for the NL East title.
