Police and paramedics were called to the 3400 block of Salem Grange Road around 6 p.m. Friday, July 19, for reports of a woman who had possibly drowned in a pool.

Melanie Lamb, 56, was taken to Salem Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 6:36 p.m., according to the Columbiana County Coroner’s Office.

The cause of death remains under investigation. An autopsy is being conducted by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A man at the house, William Dean Hively, appeared to be heavily intoxicated and was threatening emergency workers, according to the police report.

The report said that as first responders were putting Lamb in the ambulance and administering CPR, one of the responders said that Hively was threatening to kill them and that he was going to get a handgun.

Deputies stood with first responders so they could attend to Lamb, the report stated.

Deputies noted an empty bottle of liquor was sitting on the back deck of the pool.

Hively was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated menacing and disorderly conduct. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Monday. He will be back in court Aug. 1.
