Salem Police investigating downtown shooting of 44-year-old man

Salem Police were investigating a shooting early Thursday involving a 44-year-old man who was hospitalized after being shot in the torso.

Officers responding to a 5:25 a.m. call of shots fired on the 100 block of Commercial Street NE found the man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Salem Health with a non-life-threatening injury.

The man initially told officers he had been in a verbal dispute with two other men, but he refused to further cooperate with the investigation, police said.
