    Class ‘B’ state tournament begins with quadrupleheader

    SALEM, S.D. (KELO) — The Class ‘B’ state legion tournament commenced Friday with four games.

    In the opener, Elk Point-Jefferson blanked Lake Norden/Badger 2-0. Post 134 scored on a wild pitch in the first and on an Ashton Fairbanks single in the seventh. Keaton Gale tossed a two-hitter in which he struck out a dozen.

    The second game of the day saw defending champion Dell Rapids roll to a 10-0 victory over Big Stone City. Dells blew the game open with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth. Tad Tjaden pitched a complete game for Post 65.

    Parkston began the evening session with a 9-0 shutout of Platte-Geddes. Post 194 broke through with six runs in the top if the third inning.

    In the final game of the day, Salem/Montrose/Canova knocked off Groton 9-1. SMC got the scoring started with two runs in the bottom of the first. Post 140 led 3-1 entering the sixth when it plated six to seize control of the contest.

    EPJ will take on Parkston in the first winner’s bracket game on Saturday at 4 p.m. That will be followed by Dell Rapids squaring off against Salem/Montrose/Canova.
