The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating an incident that left one man dead after a shooting in Salina. At approximately 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Salina Police Department were dispatched to a home in Salina, after learning a man with a felony warrant was at the location.

When officers arrived, they made contact with the homeowner, who reported that the subject, 44-year-old Larry J. Wray Jr. of Salina, was in the detached garage at the residence. Officers entered the garage and placed Wray under arrest for an outstanding warrant.

The Salina Police claim after Wray was taken into custody an officer heard another person inside the garage.

This person, later identified as 25-year-old Jesse D. Wray of Salina, was commanded to exit the garage. Wray refused. Officers say Wray clained he was holding a gun and threatened officers. As the suspect barricaded himself inside the garage, troopers from the Kansas Highway Patrol arrived to assist. Officers then observed a fire and smoke in the garage, and the garage door opened and a female subject exited, followed by Wray.

Gunfire was exchanged. Officers from the Salina Police Department and troopers from the KHP fired rounds that struck Wray who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The woman was accessed at Salina Regional Health Center and was later released. Police did not disclose whether or not she was injured by gunfire.  No law enforcement officers were injured in the shooting.
