SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Chevron Soccer Academy (CSA) once again returned to Salinas for a free soccer clinic and tryout over the weekend, announced the San Jose Earthquakes.

Chevron and Alianza de Futbol partnered with the San Jose Earthquakes to provide a youth sports training clinic on July 13 and a day of tryouts on July 14 at the Salinas Regional Soccer Complex.

Approximately 200 Monterey County participants between nine and 15 years old received soccer training from current and former professionals. An additional 200 student athletes between 15 and 17 years old had the opportunity to tryout in front of scouts from United States Soccer Federation (USSF), Atlas Fútbol Club, Club de Fútbol Pachuca, Club de Fútbol América S.A. de C.V. and California State University, Monterey Bay (subject to change), according to the San Jose Earthquakes.

Former soccer professionals Omar Bravo, Isabella Echeverri and Ramiro Corrales were available for autograph signing as well as a Q&A session.

“We are thrilled to bring CSA back to Salinas for a 6th year of soccer fun and STEM education,” said Chanel Jolly, Corporate Affairs Manager at Chevron ahead of the event. “We are excited to see what our youth can accomplish both on and off the field and support them as they pursue their full potential.”

“The Chevron Soccer Academy lets kids meet the pros and develop meaningful connections with other peers who love soccer. Partnerships with companies like Chevron help us bring these events to local areas and reach our goal of growing soccer in North America,” said Heath Pearce, President at For Soccer, the owning entity of Alianza de Futbol.

Eight student athletes were selected by scouts and the Access U Foundation for further conversations regarding tryout and mentorship opportunities: Cruz Martinez, Angel Ramos, Jorge Hernandez, Jeshua Magana, Karina Vargas, Jose Hernandez, Joselyn Claytor and Herctor Gonzalez.

"We have a mix of scouts and some special guests," said Pearce, "The most important thing is that we have a platform for these players to present themselves to these scouts and hopefully be selected to continue with these clubs."

The free clinics hit capacity prior to the event.
