A chilling Google Maps snapshot might hold the key to unraveling the disappearance of a woman who went missing right after sending her sister a "good morning" text .

Arelie Garcia, aged 25, pinged her sister with a bright "good morning" message on her commute to work on September 22, 2022. But Arelie, hailing from Salinas, California , never clocked in for her shift and hasn't been spotted since that day.

Now, detectives are digging into whether a Google Maps shot of her striking red Honda Accord could illuminate the investigation.

  • 7-year-old Ohio boy tragically killed after shooting himself accidentally amid 'chaotic scenes'
  • Seattle cop fired over 'disturbing and inhumane' remarks about woman struck dead by police SUV
  • The snap captures the Honda perched atop a cliff along Highway 1 in Big Sur, California - but for Arelie's kin, the enigma only grows as they claim the photo suggests Arelie wasn't behind the wheel. They've told the fuzz how Arelie had tricked out her ride with a custom suspension, which she usually dropped low when parked a style known as slamming.

On that ill-fated morning, the deserted vehicle wasn't slammed, and the driver's seat was reclined further back than Arelie would have set it. Inside the car were Arelie's wallet, keys, and mobile all untouched, with no hint of criminal activity, according to the New York Post.

On the fateful day of September 22, 2022, Arelie's family grew concerned when she stopped responding to messages and didn't show up for work at a car dealership. Her sister Veronica revealed that she had received a message from Arelie that morning.

Veronica shared: "She pretty much said, 'Good morning, I love you", adding: "My little one she says that's her baby so she would be like, 'I love you and the baby.'".

CCTV footage shows Arelie leaving her mother's apartment on Roosevelt Street around 6.30am, with the text to her sister sent about half an hour later.

The family discussed the case in a new episode of the Dateline, Missing in America Podcast, where Detective Edwin Cruz of the Salinas Police stated that when she left home, "no one approached her and there is no indication that her vehicle was followed."

The podcast also speculated whether Arelie's disappearance could be linked to the case of Kayeleigh Gammill, 20, who went missing a month earlier before her body was discovered off Highway 1 in Big Sur. However, detectives assured the family and Dateline that there is no evidence connecting the two cases and that Arelie's disappearance remains an active investigation.
