Notre Dame is gearing up for the 2024 season, but they received some bad news on Monday morning that could hurt their chances of making the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff.
Offensive Lineman Charles Jagusah suffered a season-ending injury, tearing his right pectoral muscle.
Jagusah was expected to take over the starting left tackle spot for Joe Alt, who was selected with the fifth overall pick in this year's NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers.
According to 247sports , the 6-foot-7 offensive lineman was a four-star recruit in the 2023 class and ranked as the eighth overall offensive lineman.
The Fighting Irish are expected to be one of the best teams in the country this season, and Jagusah was supposed to protect new transfer quarterback Riley Leonard's Blindside.
Leonard turned himself into one of the best quarterbacks in the country last season while at Duke and made himself a household name after he took down Clemson in Week One last year.
Notre Dame is already fighting an uphill climb since it doesn't play in a conference and can't get one of the top four spots in the playoffs because it doesn't have a conference title game.
The Irish's only chance of making the playoffs is an at-large bid, and it will be interesting to see if they can pull off a spot this season.
