SALISBURY — U.S. News & World Report has named TidalHealth Peninsula Regional the 5th Best Hospital (tie) in Maryland and a 2024-2025 High Performing hospital for 9 challenging and elective health conditions; the highest distinction a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings.

Additionally, TidalHealth Peninsula Regional was recognized as a BEST Regional Hospital on the Eastern Shore and a BEST Regional Hospital for Equitable Access.

Within a state or metro area, the regional hospital BEST rank is determined by a hospital’s performance in the adult specialty rankings analysis and by its scores across each of the 21 procedure and condition areas evaluated.

The BEST equitable access recognition identifies the Salisbury hospital as achieving excellence in caring for patients in historically underserved communities while maintaining high quality care. It was one of only 98 honored across the United States.

TidalHealth Peninsula Regional was recognized as high performing in the clinical fields of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Surgery; Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD); Colon Cancer Surgery; Treatment of Heart Attack, Treatment of Heart Failure; Hip Replacement Surgery; Knee Replacement Surgery; Lung Cancer Surgery and Treatment of Pneumonia.

The annual Procedures & Conditions ratings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions and elective procedures. The recognition by U.S. News acknowledges the care provided at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional is significantly better than the national average, as measured by factors such as patient outcomes.

TidalHealth Nanticoke in Seaford, Del. was ranked on average with peer United States hospitals in 13 categories (COPD, colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart attack, heart failure, hip fracture, hip replacement, knee replacement, pneumonia, leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, stroke and kidney failure).

“Organizationally, it is great to again be honored among the best with our peer hospitals in America,” said Steve Leonard, Ph.D., MBA, FACHE, President/CEO of TidalHealth. "This recognition is an acknowledgement of how hard everyone in our health system continues to work, including our medical staff, nursing team, volunteers and Board, to maintain the best possible environment for our patients. It is gratifying to know these team efforts are being recognized again nationally by U.S. News, and for our Maryland hospital to be ranked among the top five best in the state.”

For the 2024-2025 Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals across 15 specialties and 21 procedures and conditions. Hospitals, including TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, who were awarded a “Best” designation excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience. Only 11% of all hospitals earned a numerical ranking in a state or a medical specialty.

The U.S. News Procedures & Conditions methodology is based entirely on objective measures of quality such as survival rates, patient experience and how successfully each hospital helps patients get back home.

“For 35 years, U.S. News has provided data-informed rankings to help patients and their doctors find the best hospital to treat their illness or condition,” said Ben Harder, Chief of Health Analysis and Managing Editor at U.S. News. “Fewer than half of evaluated hospitals earned any High Performing rating. Hospitals that are High Performing have excelled in providing high quality care in specific procedures and/or conditions.”
