    Men try to steal from armored truck sparking police chase in Rowan County: Sheriff’s Office

    ROWAN COUNTY, NC ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — Two men are behind bars after an alleged plot to steal from an armored truck driver, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office says.

    Around 1:30 p.m. on June 13, deputies received a call about two suspicious men wearing security hoodies and standing around a Brinks armored truck at 125 Tingle Drive in Salisbury. The armored truck’s driver waited inside one of the stores for law enforcement.

    Deputies say they arrived to find two men wearing all black standing around the Brinks truck with their hands in their pockets. When deputies got out of their patrol cars, the men started to walk away, ignoring the deputies’ demands to stop and show their hands.

    Both men jumped into a gold Nissan Altima, according to authorities. The car was soon spotted by China Grove Police and a chase began. The chase ended at 802 Mt Olivet Road in Kannapolis when the two men and a third suspect ran from the car on foot.

    Two of the three were caught, Raymond Tino and Devonte Scott. Officials say on the way to the sheriff’s office, Tino started to hit the cage in the back of the patrol vehicle and damaged it. As a result, he is charged with the following:

    • Resisting a Public Officer
    • Damage to Property
    • Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon

    Scott also faces a charge of Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon. After getting a warrant, a later search of the Nissan found a 40-caliber Glock handgun.

    Both men are being held without bond at the Rowan County Detention Center. Authorities have not released a description of the thrid suspect.
